UEFA have left Liverpool in a major state of confusion after Cody Gakpo was angered by the decision

The Europa League group stage ended with a 2-1 defeat to Union Saint-Gileoa in Brussels on Thursday night. A lot has changed, and the youngster suffered only the second defeat of the Reds in Group E, but a place in the last 16 was guaranteed before the start.
When Manchester United arrived at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Klopp decided to rest senior players including Ben Doak, Cade Gordon, Luke Chambers and Conor Bradley.

In midfield, Harvey Elliott played alongside winger Cade Gordon and defensive midfielder Wataru Endo led the attack as a lone striker. Behind him was center back Jarell Quansah, who was free to roam in the new number 10 spot. The young defender has had an excellent season on a personal level, but despite scoring a fine equalizer on the night, Klopp is unlikely to unleash his creativity in the final third any time soon.

Andy Robertson’s injury has led to increased reliance on Kostas Tsimikas at times, while it is unclear whether Cody Gakpo will be able to replace the Greek defender at left-back despite UEFA’s decision to field a striker. To show. Sheets. Gakpo is a versatile operator, but not a defender. However, in this season’s League Cup, Curtis Jones played at right-back against Leicester.

It is no exaggeration to say that the Reds manager has assembled an experimental squad in Brussels. But UEFA was wrong that night.Curtis Jones captained Liverpool for the third time, becoming the first European to wear the captain’s armband in Thursday night’s win over Union SG. Jurgen Klopp had a smile on his face before the game. The 22-year-old ran to the center circle for some pregame fun and was called for a throw-in. However, referee Orel Greenfeld used colored discs instead of real coins.

“Is it red or green?” he asked, and Jones’s answer was clear. “Of course it’s red!” – he answered sadly. It landed on the green. Perhaps for Liverpool this is a sign of what is to come on a chaotic evening. Elliot advises GordonIt has been a long and often painful wait for Kaide Gordon to return to the first team, but the young winger was allowed to return on Thursday night for the first time in 23 months, starting on the right side of the front three. Gordon was unable to make it due to what he described as a “complicated hip problem” but returned against USG nearly two years later and received some tips and advice from his famous teammate Harvey Elliott. At 19, Gordon may not be much younger than Elliott, who turns 21 in April, but given his experience of first-team football at Liverpool, the latter is a much older player and see in his growing maturity and sensitivity. He was credited with the group for giving advice to Gordon while the rest of the team celebrated Jarell Quanza’s equalizer.

After Kwansa drew 1-1, Elliott took Gordon aside for a brief moment of inspiration. It’s unclear what came up during the discussion, but Elliott feels comfortable as a senior player for the Reds this season. Gakpo’s boot is on the opposite foot. It was a night to remember for Cody Gakpo as he narrowly missed out on the Belgian leaders. However, the attacker did not get help from some of the officers on duty.
