If Michael Malone cooks anymore, he’ll have to open his own restaurant. After UNC’s head men’s basketball coach landed weekend visits for class of 2027 5-stars CJ Rosser and Jordan Page, Malone has another highly-touted prospect coming to Chapel Hill.
On Friday, On3Sports’ Joe Tipton announced North Carolina is now in the race for Bremerton (Wa.) High School 5-star combo guard Jalen Davis.
According to his 247Sports recruiting profile, Davis is the class of 2027’s 13th-ranked overall player, third-ranked combo guard and Washington State’s top-ranked overall prospect.
Davis goes to the same school as former Tar Heel legend Marvin Williams, who won the 2005 NCAA Championship and enjoyed a successful, 16-year NBA career with four different squads after being selected second overall in 2005.
With Davis now officially in UNC’s recruiting picture, he now becomes the program’s 12th offer. Davis and fellow 5-star Adan Diggs (Goodyear, Ariz.) are the only two combo guards in North Carolina’s 2027 class.
The list of fellow Davis suitors includes Gonzaga, UCLA and USC, but that list goes far beyond the four programs mentioned in this article. In Chapel Hill, Davis would join a long list of recent, highly-touted guard recruits like Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson.
This year’s Tar Heels squad will feature a backcourt including transfers Terrence Brown, Angelo Brizzi and Matt Able, plus returners Jaydon Young and Isaiah Denis. Malloy Smith joins UNC from its 2026 high school recruiting class, while senior Evan Smith returns. Recent recruiting momentum favors Malone and his North Carolina squad.
