Virgil van Dijk, Dominic Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara: Liverpool’s injury list and possible return matches

 

Liverpool injury and fitness news on Virgil van Dijk, Dominic Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara and Andy Robertson.

Liverpool will look to take a step closer to Wembley when they take on Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield on Wednesday.

Reds came into the game in strong form, taking the lead in the Premier League after beating Arsenal 2-0 in the FA Cup third round last weekend.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s men are struggling with injuries and availability. The latest squad news ahead of Fulham and when some players could return.

The Liverpool skipper traveled to Arsenal but had to pull out of the game due to illness. Much will depend on how he recovers. Possible second game: Fulham (H), Wednesday, January 10

Dominic Szoboslai – hamstringThe midfielder struggled in the 4-2 win over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day. Soboslay was previously ruled out for the match against Fulham. Possible return game: Bournemouth (A), Sunday 21 January.

Andy Robertson – Shoulder

The left-back has trained but has yet to be introduced to the rest of the squad. Robertson has been on the treatment table since October and he need several weeks to get back to health. Potential return: end of January/February.

Thiago Alcantara

The midfielder has not played for Liverpool since undergoing hip surgery in April. Klopp recently said he hoped Thiago would return to team training this month. Potential return: end of January/February.

Stepan Bajcetic

With the 19-year-old showing signs of growth, Liverpool will have to keep an eye on his fitness and not take any chances. Bajcetic appeared in just two games this season and 19 games last season. Potential return: None

Kostas Tsimikas

We will have to wait for the broken bone to heal before the Greek footballer is eligible again. Potential Returns: None

Joel Matip – Knee

The experienced centre-back had to undergo cruciate ligament surgery last month and there are concerns he could be out of action this season. Potential Returns: None

Highly rated extreme teenager suffered a knee injury against Chelsea last month. He too had been gone for a long time. Potential Returns: None
