Virgil van Dijk has highlighted the essential nature of Liverpool’s ‘transformation’.

Virgil van Dijk has stressed that “consistency is the key” after Liverpool’s strong start to the season.

The Reds underwent a summer overhaul after a disappointing 2022/23 season in which they missed out on Champions League qualification for the first time since 2016.

But a new-look Liverpool, dubbed the ‘rebooted Liverpool’ by Jurgen Klopp, has made a successful start to the 2023/2024 season.

Klopp’s side have lost just once in nine games in Ligue 1. And that defeat came in highly controversial circumstances. They are just one point off the top of the table. The Reds have won three of their three cup matches so far.

After Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton, club captain Van Dijk said new signings and changes to the squad had helped, but insisted that maintaining “high standards” this season will be crucial to their chances. “There was definitely a change, but there was also a change in our game,” Van Dijk told TNT Sports.

“We have players with different qualities and we try to adapt them little by little to our football and I think it works very well. “And we don’t have a lot of injuries so we push each other and that comes from the bench. Obviously there are some injuries now, but before [no]; That was also the key.“At the end of the day, it’s all about finding the right fit.

“Everyone is playing at a very high level and hopefully that will be the key to our success this season and make sure we do that in every competition we play.”Speaking about the team’s mentality, Van Dijk pointed out that with the winter schedule full of games, no one can get ahead.”It’s just a game.

That’s how we deal with everything,” added the 32-year-old. “Try to be a good person and enjoy the moment. We are playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are very privileged, so let’s present ourselves and be proud and spend our time together,” he said .
