Virgil van Dijk: Now it’s a team game and every player has a job to do

Virgil van Dijk has stressed the need for every player in Liverpool’s squad to contribute in their quest for success this season.

Liverpool made a strong start to the Premier League season with a Europa League draw against Group E leaders Toulouse tonight after two games.

Van Dijk believes Jurgen Klopp will continue to use a variety of options to maintain this strong form on a variety of fronts.

Commenting on tonight’s fixture schedule, the captain said: “What I liked most about the Europa League campaign was that we took it easy, got the job done and moved on to the next challenge.

Players are selected from among themselves.“Obviously we’ve had two good wins in the two games so far and now we’re top of the group. This shows the positive start we have made.

The manager made changes in this game but the team tried and executed and got a very good result.“In modern football, with games being played at an ever faster pace, it is important to be able to do this as the ‘first choice’ XI is constantly changing from game to game.

Now it’s a team game, meaning each player has a job to do.”At the time of writing, it is still too early to know which team the manager will pick for tonight’s game against Toulouse, but hopefully anyone in the squad can play for the team.” “Our form has been good so far this season and it continued with the win against Everton at the weekend.

But it’s only October so we’re working hard on the training pitch and still trying to improve.”All of this – the desire to improve, the effort and the quality of the team – have been the highlights of the first few months of the season.

“There have been countless times where players have come off the bench to make a positive difference for us and we saw that again in the derby when a goal was scored after a managerial change.”This is what we want.

As I said earlier, the responsibility for today’s results belongs to everyone more than in the past. So if they can keep scoring points no matter who’s on the pitch, it could bode well for the rest of the competition.
