Pep Guardiola has spoken about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has explained why he considers Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp his greatest rival of all time.
Klopp and Guardiola have faced each other 29 times in total, more than any other manager. Klopp’s 11 wins are the most by any boss against Guardiola, while the City manager’s 10 wins are the most by any boss against the German.
Both managers have a lot of experience and while the two Premier League clubs have a lot to do with it at the moment, this goes deeper than a meeting between the Reds and the Etihad.
The two began their history as rivals between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The two have competed fiercely for the game’s top honor since their first meeting in Germany.
And when asked about the toughest manager he has ever seen, Guardiola had no hesitation in picking out Klopp. In response to a question from Sky Sports, Spaniard Klopp replied:
“Jurgen Klopp.” “In the beginning we met here and here in Dortmund thousands of times.“Secondly, it hit me so hard that it was always difficult to continue.
I have a lot of respect for him because his team played for Dortmund, Mainz and now before Liverpool. He is so charming and positive.
“At least from my point of view, we respect each other and I respect him a lot. “Of course we fight and I don’t like it when he hits me.
“But he was my biggest rival because of how many times I played, how hard it was and the joy I felt when I beat him.”
