We “haven’t confirmed anything yet” – Arne Slot provides update on Liverpool job

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot remains confident an agreement will be finalised for him to become Liverpool boss despite his admission that nothing is confirmed yet.

Liverpool appear to be entering the final stages of appointing a manager to replace Jurgen Klopp when he bids farewell to the club at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim were among those to be heavily linked at different stages of the search for Klopp’s successor.

However, in the last couple of weeks, Slot has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the reins at Anfield ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

A recent report claimed that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Feyenoord over a compensation package worth up to £9.4m.

“Nothing has been officially confirmed yet,” Slot told Dutch media at Friday’s pre-match conference for the upcoming clash with PEC Zwolle.

“I’m sitting here with the Feyenoord emblem on my chest, so in principle the intention is that it’s all about Feyenoord. I have said before that I am confident that it will be done. I don’t know when that will be. But I expect an agreement will be reached.”

Although he is confident a deal will be agreed, Slot insists he remains focused on his job with Feyenoord until he is formally announced as Klopp’s replacement.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot said: “We haven’t confirmed anything yet and as I said to the Dutch media, as long as we haven’t confirmed anything yet, I don’t think it is honest to the club where I am working now, or the club I could go to, to talk about that.”

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds and Feyenoord are likely to wait until the Eredivisie title is officially decided to confirm Slot’s move.

PSV Eindhoven are all but champions in name after establishing a nine-point lead and significant goal difference advantage over Feyenoord with just three matches left to play.

With PSV likely to clinch the title this weekend, there is a possibility that Slot could be announced as Liverpool’s new boss next week.

Slot may not win his second Eredivisie title this season, but he has already guided Feyenoord to their first KNVB Beker in six years.

The 45-year-old is set to take charge of Feyenoord’s final three games against PEC Zwolle, NEC and Excelsior, before he makes the expected switch to Liverpool at the end of the season.
