West Ham fans could be forgiven for wondering what the Hammers did to upset the football gods once again after their Carabao Cup quarter-final draw with Liverpool.
This is a trophy the East Londoners have never won before in any form and winning it at Anfield will be a tough task as part of their quest for silverware. This is because West Ham have won 11-11 twice in the last 60 years.
They fought in several close encounters, but did not return to London until the turn of the century. It was a 3-0 win in 2015. The club felt the odds were against them but the Premier League game gave them a huge boost.
The cup match is between Liverpool and Manchester United and the next match is against Arsenal. Jurgen Klopp may therefore need to make some changes to his squad to avoid unnecessary injuries in the two most important games of the season.
If David Moyes’ men play like they did against Arsenal at Liverpool, they won’t need any help to reach the semi-finals. If they do, they will move one step closer to Wembley and have the potential to lift their second trophy in two seasons.
