Liverpool thought that they had the next Raheem Sterling on their hands, however, he only scored one goal last season.
The Liverpool academy has been the home to countless Premier League talents. The likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are just a few who spring to mind.
The aforementioned three have forever etched themselves in top-flight history and are among some of the league’s best-ever players.
Even now, the club find themselves going through something of a ‘golden generation’ with the likes of Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah and even Curtis Jones bursting into the first-team over the last season.
There’s no doubt that this is thanks to Jurgen Klopp’s focus on developing youngsters, however, it’s also a major testament to the academy staff that help to raise the youngsters into the players we see today.
This season alone has seen many players make their first-team debuts such as James McConnell and, surprisingly, Quansah.
The latter of the two has had an outstanding season and has more often than not been the main partner to captain, Virgil van Dijk.
Quansah is just 21-years-old and surprisingly found himself as a mainstay in Klopp’s squad.
Granted, this is largely down to the season-long injury Joel Matip suffered, however, his introduction this season has unearthed yet another of Liverpool’s academy gems.
The youngster has played a total of 34 games across all competitions and has even managed to involve himself with six goals.
Remarkably, three of those six have come as assists, which, for a central defender, isn’t what would be classed as ‘the norm.’
Despite Quansah having a solid first season as a senior squad member, unfortunately for some, this isn’t the case, especially for former Red, Sheyi Ojo.
