Klopp has been very successful since joining Liverpool in October 2015. He won the Champions League in 2019 and ended the club’s long wait to win the Premier League in 2020.
The announcement comes as Liverpool chase four more trophies this season.Manchester United will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on February 25 and are still in the running to win the FA Cup and Europa League. Wednesday night’s 4-1 win over Chelsea moved Liverpool five points clear of the Premier League leaders.
Last week, Klopp said he decided to leave Liverpool because he had “no energy left” after eight tough years. But Antonio revealed last season that he had heard rumors that Klopp was considering his future.
He also believes Klopp’s sudden departure could have been due to his family wanting to return home. Speaking on the BBC’s The Players podcast, he said:
“To be honest, I heard he was thinking about leaving last season.But after what he did last year and this year, I’m honestly shocked that he made the announcement. From what I hear, and it may not be true, his family wants to go home, to be honest. This was a rumour.
“He will be truly missed. He was fantastic for the club. “You always want the best manager in the league and it’s a shame he’s gone.”Antonio infuriated Liverpool fans earlier this season when he tipped West Ham to beat the Reds at Anfield and overtake them in the Premier League.
His team lost 3-1 and the striker was particularly disappointing. Liverpool.com says: It would be unfair for any Liverpool fan to question Klopp’s explanation for his decision to leave Anfield this summer. He has given a lot to the club and the city over the past nine years and is expected to end his tenure with more wins. Klopp said his wife Ula convinced him to stay when his contract was extended in 2022.
In this phone call he was clearly consulted and the Klopp family decided that leaving Liverpool was the right decision. Their reasons deserve respect.
