Liverpool is closing in on the appointment of Arne Slot, with the Dutchman tasked with following in the footsteps of Jürgen Klopp at Anfield. Klopp will step down this summer with just three matches remaining of his tenure.
It is not going to be the fairytale ending for the Liverpool boss, with his side enduring a difficult run of late. Saturday’s draw with West Ham all but ended Liverpool’s faint title hopes, with Arsenal and Manchester City now pulling clear.
The recent form should not distract from what has been an excellent campaign for Klopp’s side, with nobody predicting they would be anywhere near the title race at the start of the season.
Slot will be inheriting a very talented squad, with several youngsters having stepped up this season. And the likes of Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah are set for even more prominent roles next term.
What Salah allegedly said to Klopp
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah was involved a fiery touchline row with Jürgen Klopp during Saturday’s draw with West Ham. Salah has not been at his best since returning from injury and started on the bench at the London Stadium.
He was introduced in the closing stages and was visibly annoyed at something his manager had said. Salah refused to discuss the incident with the media after the game, warning there would be ‘fire’ if he spoke.
Klopp played it down and suggested the matter had been dealt with but the row only further fueled speculation over Salah’s future at Liverpool. The Egyptian is out of contract in 2025 and is likely to be the subject of fresh interest from Saudi Pro League clubs this summer.
Reds and Slot sent De Jong message
Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot is set to face some big transfer decisions this summer as he tries to put his stamp on the current squad. There is likely to be some new signings, with at least one defensive addition needed with Joël Matip set to depart.
