This season has already been the most frustrating campaign of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s career. The Liverpool academy graduate missed just one game due to injury last season, but this season he has been wracked with injury problems.
Already Alexander-Arnold has missed 20 matches for club and country this season due to injury. This is a career high for the 25-year-old. Previously, he had missed 17 games for club and country during the 2021/22 season, but only 15 of those games were due to injury and the other two were for contracting Covid-19.
He has never been someone who doesn’t get injured, but he has never been injured for this long during his Liverpool career. In total, he has missed 94 days and counting now due to injury since the start of the season. Even during the 2021/22 season, Alexander-Arnold only missed 80 days.
But given Alexander-Arnold’s problem is a recurrent one, Liverpool have been careful not to rush him back too early. Having already risked him for a couple of games during his brief return at the start of the year, Liverpool’s medical staff have decided to be even more cautious.
When Liverpool realistically expect Trent Alexander-Arnold to return from injury
Alexander-Arnold hasn’t featured for Liverpool since the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Burnley in the Premier League. He only lasted 45 minutes in that game registering the assist for Diogo Jota’s opener before being substituted for Harvey Elliott at half-time.
Since then Alexander-Arnold has even been spotted wearing a leg brace during Carabao Cup final celebrations against Chelsea, and he hasn’t returned to team training. However, according to the latest reports, he is making progress in his recovery.
The Telegraph reports that Alexander-Arnold is accelerating his recovery process at the AXA training centre during the international break. Realistically, the report claims that he will be able to be back in action for Liverpool’s return to Old Trafford next month. However, the report also claims he could even be back in time to face Sheffield United a few days prior.
When he does return, it will be great to have Alexander-Arnold back in the team. Even during a difficult season, he has still managed 12 goal contributions and has 8 goal contributions in his last 15 matches. If he can continue those numbers until the end of the season, Klopp’s side will get a huge boost. Fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later.
