Liverpool face Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup this weekend, but there has been a special change to their kit.
Reds begin their quest to claim the trophy in 2022 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. This is the sixth time in the last seven seasons that they have faced top-flight opposition at this stage.
Mikel Arteta’s side will host the match but will not be wearing their traditional red and white home shirts for the event.
For the first time in the club’s history, the Gunners will wear white shirts rather than the usual red shirts in an away game against Liverpool.
It is to promote the club’s ‘No More Red’ campaign against knife crime and marks the third time the Gunners have worn the shirt in competition in the last three seasons.
But this is the first time Emirates has done so. This means Liverpool can wear their home shirt without causing a clash of colours.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s side will wear purple shirts at home to show their support for the visitors in their ongoing campaign.
Arsenal’s first appearance in the special white kit since 2022 ended in defeat as Nottingham Forest won 1-0 in the competition.
But 12 months later, more luck came when Arteta’s side beat Oxford United 3-0.Liverpool will be hoping to repeat their trip to Wembley in 2021/22 after completing a domestic cup double. Both wins came at Chelsea’s expense in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw.
It’s a tough start to work and there’s no doubt the manager will be keeping an eye on the League Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham at Anfield in three days’ time.
Changes are expected this weekend, but the Reds will be ready to mark the milestone against a side looking to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
