Liverpool’s Zimbabwean teenager Trey Nyoni, who trained with the senior squad at the invitation of manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with French side Toulouse, has been ruled out of the game under UEFA rules.
Nyoni has taken a huge step forward in his career since joining from Leicester after impressing with the juniors and then training with the seniors. The 16-year-old midfielder scored four goals and provided three assists for Liverpool’s youth academy.
The experience of working with the team’s superstars will be invaluable for Nyoni, but UEFA regulations will mean he will not be able to make his European debut.
“A 16-year-old player can be placed on List B if he has been permanently registered with a participating club for the past two years.”Because Nyoni joined Liverpool at the start of the season, he cannot be included on the B-list.
