Erik Stevenson won’t be playing with Best Virginia in this summer’s TBT, but it’s for a good reason, as the former Mountaineer has signed with the Miami Heat to play in the NBA Summer League.
“Congrats to Erik Stevenson on getting signed with the Miami Heat summer league,” Best Virginia general manager and former Mountaineer John Flowers wrote on social media. “Unfortunately, he won’t be able to play TBT with Best Virginia this year. We have to get a dog as his replacement.”
This will be Stevenson’s third straight year participating in the NBA Summer League. He played for San Antonio in 2023 and was signed by the Washington Wizards last year. He spent the regular season with Washington’s G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go, averaging 14.7 points per game across 30 appearances.
Stevenson signed a 10-day contract with Washington in the middle of February, but did not appear in an NBA game.
In his lone season at West Virginia, Stevenson averaged a team-high 15.4 points per game. He scored at least 10 points 24 times, and eclipsed 30 points twice over a three-game stretch in late January and early February.
Former Mountaineer center Jesse Edwards will also participate in the summer league, playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Edwards signed a two-way contract with Minnesota last season, which has been renewed for 2025-26. He appeared in two NBA games last season.
Edwards averaged 15 points per game in his one season in Morgantown. He also averaged eight rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. The NBA Summer League begins this weekend on July 5 and will run through July 20.
