The Los Angeles Lakers have finally finalized most of their previously reported free-agent signings/moves (newcomers).
After officially bringing Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, and Walker Kessler on board (via sign-and-trade), the Lakers beat out the Golden State Warriors for a $91 million (career earnings) former Cleveland Cavaliers All-Rookie guard.
“Bringing the energy to LA,” the Lakers wrote on X/Twitter. “Welcome to the Lake Show, Collin (Sexton).”
Before the Lakers inked a deal with Sexton, The Stein Line’s Marc Stein and Jake Fisher reported that the Warriors were among the teams eyeing the Alabama product following their disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
“League sources say that the Warriors, though, are planning to register interest in various other free agents while waiting to see how James’ highly anticipated free agency plays out,” Stein and Fischer wrote on June 28.
“Sources say that Golden State is among the teams expected to pursue veteran big man Jock Landale in addition to scoring guards such as Anfernee Simons and Collin Sexton.”
Ultimately, the Lakers won the Sexton sweepstakes and should expect high-energy defensive contributions, consistent paint touches, and high-caliber perimeter shooting (off the catch and the dribble) from the wiry 27-year-old guard. Sexton averaged 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds with the Chicago Bulls last season, shooting 48.5% from the field and 40.1% from beyond the arc. The ex-McDonald’s All-American should be thrilled to begin a new journey with the new look, Luka Doncic-led Lakers.
