The Los Angeles Lakers need help at two main positions — wing and center — this offseason if they are to climb into the upper rung of the NBA. They will have tens of millions of dollars in salary cap space this summer, but at least some of it will likely be used to re-sign their own players, including perhaps LeBron James and Austin Reaves, and while they can offer two future first-round draft picks and their first-rounder this year in any trade, they lack players who are attractive trade assets.
Still, the Lakers are expected to be aggressive on the trade market this summer. One player they could go after, according to Evan Sidery, is New Orleans Pelicans wing Herbert Jones.
But given its relative lack of trade assets, Los Angeles may not be able to get very choosy about which role players it will try to acquire. That is especially true when one looks at all the quality wing and guard players across the NBA that the team will have to get past come playoff time in order to win another championship.
